Phase Equilibria Involved in the Extractive Distillation of Cyclohexane + Cyclohexene Using Diethyl Carbonate as an Entrainer

2011

Isobaric vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) data at 100 kPa have been measured for the ternary system cyclohexane + cyclohexene + diethyl carbonate and two constituent binary systems: cyclohexane + diethyl carbonate and cyclohexene + diethyl carbonate. Both binary systems show moderate positive deviations from ideal behavior and do not present an azeotrope. The VLE data have been correlated by the Wilson, universal quasichemical activity coefficient (UNIQUAC), and nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) equations. The ternary system does not present an azeotrope and is well-estimated from binary interaction parameters. A prediction with the universal functional activity coefficient (UNIFAC)-Dortmund method…

Mechanism of the palladium-catalysed electrosynthesis of diethyl carbonate from carbon monoxide and ethanol

2004

Abstract A mechanism is proposed for the PdBr2(PPh3)2-catalysed electrosynthesis of diethyl carbonate from carbon monoxide and ethanol, proceeding at room temperature and atmospheric CO pressure. The mechanism is investigated by cyclic voltammetry and 31P NMR spectroscopy. The active Pd0 complex able to coordinate CO is generated by the chemical reduction of PdBr2(PPh3)2 by EtO– ions generated from EtOH at the cathode. After reaction of EtO– ions with Pd0(PPh3)2(CO), the ensuing anionic complex [(PPh3)2Pd0–COOEt]– is oxidized at the anode in a key step leading to BrPdII–COOEt(PPh3)2. A nucleophilic attack of ethoxide on the latter generates diethyl carbonate and the Pd0 complex active in th…

Evaluation of Diethyl Carbonate and Methyl Isobutyl Ketone as Entrainers for the Separation of 1-Hexene and n-Hexane

2017

Diethyl carbonate and methyl isobutyl ketone are tested as possible entrainers for separating 1-hexene and n-hexane by extractive distillation. For this purpose, isobaric vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) data at 100 kPa have been obtained for the two ternary systems formed by the two hydrocarbons and one of the selected solvents: 1-hexene + n-hexane + diethyl carbonate and 1-hexene + n-hexane + methyl isobutyl ketone. VLE data for the following constituent binary systems have also been determined: 1-hexene + diethyl carbonate, n-hexane + diethyl carbonate, 1-hexene + methyl isobutyl ketone, and finally n-hexane + methyl isobutyl ketone. All binary systems present moderate positive deviations …

Di-n-butyltin oxide as a chemical carbon dioxide capturer

2010

Abstract Several synthetic routes to the decakis(di-n-butyltin(IV)) oxocluster, (n-Bu2SnO)6[(n-Bu2SnOCH3)2(CO3)]2 (1), a diorganotin compound previously shown to belong to the class of organotins able to store carbon dioxide, as well as its reactivity toward dimethyl carbonate (DMC), are described. The synthetic route from n-Bu2SnO and DMC was applied for the preparation of the ethoxy analogue of 1, oxocluster 2, using diethyl carbonate. The structural relationship connecting cluster 1, with its precursor PRE-1 isolated from recycling experiments and n-Bu2SnO is discussed. For this purpose, the reactivity of PRE-1 with trifluoromethanesulfonic acid was investigated in order to trace structu…

The influence of various synthesis methods on the catalytic activity of cerium oxide in one-pot synthesis of diethyl carbonate starting from CO2, eth…

2013

Different synthesis methods such as homogeneous precipitation at room temperature and supercritical water (T > 647 K and P > 22.1 MPa) were employed for cerium oxide preparation. Additionally, deposition of ceria on silica mesoporous material, SBA-15, was carried out. The obtained materials were characterized by means of X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, nitrogen physisorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and CO2 temperature programmed desorption. Considerable variations in physico-chemical properties of the resulting materials were observed. The catalytic activities of pristine cerium oxide and ceria loaded on SBA-15 support were…
